A suspected thief and dangerous driver who allegedly assaulted a police officer in Whitstable has been arrested.
On the afternoon of Monday 27 October 2025, an off-duty constable became aware of an incident near to M&S Foodhall on Prospect Way.
A man was seen loading a large quantity of meat products from a shopping trolley into a car and aroused the suspicion of the officer.
The man was approached about his behaviour and an altercation broke out, during which the officer was reportedly assaulted. The suspect left the scene in a car.
Patrols were alerted and followed the car, reportedly being driven in a dangerous manner, to the A249 near Detling.
A short pursuit ensued before the driver fled from the vehicle on foot. He was detained shortly afterwards near to junction 5 of the M2 at Sittingbourne.
The 29 year old was arrested on suspicion of theft, assault on an emergency worker and several driving offences before being taken into custody.
