Suspects tracked down after distraction burglary in Rochester

Investigators have tracked down suspects in connection with an alleged distraction burglary near Rochester.

An Isle of Grain resident contacted the police after two men stating they were builders called at her home without an appointment on Monday 27 July 2026.

The men are reported to have said she had a loose tile and then inspected the property. After they had left the victim noticed four boxes of power tools were missing.

Officers attended and an investigation was commenced.

Arrest

Two suspects were subsequently arrested on Tuesday 4 August. A quantity of tools was also seized.

Sami Perfect, 26, of Wayfield Road, Chatham, was later charged with burglary.

He appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court where he was remanded in custody to a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on 1 September.

A 48 year old man from Chatham was released on bail while enquiries continue.

Detective Inspector Madelaine Bush said: ‘I would urge homeowners to be cautious if someone unexpectedly knocks on their door offering to carry out repairs or maintenance work.  ‘Don't allow anyone to pressure you into agreeing to have work carried out and always ask for a written quote. Then speak to family or friends and get advice from reputable traders.  ‘If somebody enters your home, do not leave them unattended. If they fail to leave when you ask them to, contact the police on 999.’
