A victim who was stabbed and intentionally struck by a car in Folkestone has seen his attackers jailed.
On 4 April 2025, Abdul Gunes travelled to an address near Cheriton High Street to speak to a man with whom he had an ongoing dispute.
His son, Necdet Gunes, drove separately to the same location in a silver BMW, and both men approached the property and knocked on the front door.
When their target answered he was verbally abused and, as he stepped outside the premises, Abdul Gunes stabbed him in the chest with a knife.
The father and son left the scene and got into the BMW. When the victim followed on foot, Necdet Gunes drove the car onto the pavement and pinned him against the wall.
The attackers drove away leaving the injured man on the ground. A passing delivery driver witnessed the incident, called the emergency services and gave the BMW's registration number.
Within an hour, a patrol stopped the car in Marine Parade, Hythe where Necdet Gunes was arrested. His father, who was not present in the vehicle, was tracked down and detained at his home address later the same day.
The victim was treated at a London hospital for the stab wound and other serious upper body injuries. He has since been discharged.
Both assailants were charged and remanded. On 26 January 2026, Abdul Gunes, of The Leas, Folkestone pleaded guilty at Canterbury Crown Court to causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
Necdet Gunes, of Windmill Close, Hawkinge, Folkestone pleaded guilty at the same hearing to attempted grievous bodily harm with intent.
On Friday 9 October, Abdul Gunes, 74, received four years and four months' imprisonment. Necdet Gunes, 46, was jailed for three years. Both men will also be subject to a 10 year restraining order.
Senior investigating officer, Detective Superintendent David Higham, said:
'This appalling incident stemmed from a disagreement between the Gunes family and the victim, who had been connected through a marriage that had ended acrimoniously.
'This could have easily resulted in a fatality and these two men are now paying for their violent actions with a prison sentence. I would like to thank the witnesses who were quick to alert us to the crime and the victim who has assisted us throughout the prosecution and court process.'
