A violent offender has been jailed for an unprovoked assault with a metal bar in Medway.
On 2 August 2023, a man was sitting outside a shop in Strood Retail Park with his dog when he was approached by Roy Scott.
The pair had known each other in the past but Scott unexpectedly tried to kick the man in the face. The victim stood up and, when Scott pulled a metal bar from his trousers, tried to run away.
Scott chased him into Commercial Road and struck him 13 times with the bar before leaving the scene towards the High Street.
The victim sustained a broken arm, broken finger and bruising to his body during his ordeal, and later went to hospital for treatment.
Scott, of Burch Road, Gravesend was arrested in Northfleet on 9 August and later charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.
He pleaded guilty and, at Woolwich Crown Court on Thursday 9 November, the 41-year-old was sentenced to one year and 10 months’ imprisonment.
Detective Constable Georgie Dell, of the Kent Crime Squad, said:
‘This was an unprovoked assault on a victim who suffered serious injuries whilst just sitting peacefully in a town centre.
‘Scott is undoubtedly volatile and a danger to the public, and Medway will be a safer place while he is behind bars.’
