Suspected Canterbury thief caught by officers in the unmarked car he targeted
A suspected thief has been arrested after shining a torch into a number of vehicles, including the unmarked car police officers were sitting in at the time.
Patrols from the Canterbury Local Policing Team were on duty in a car in Bawden Close in Canterbury in the early hours on Saturday 12 January 2019, when they saw a person on a bicycle, holding a torch and acting suspiciously around other vehicles.
As the light was then shone onto the officers’ car, the suspect cycled away when officers tried to approach him and he collided with a wheelie bin a short distance later. He ran away, but was found and stopped by officers.
He was found in possession of items including a glass hammer and a small folding knife, along with two bags of a white powder, suspected to be amphetamine.
A 28-year-old man, of no fixed address, was arrested on suspicion of going equipped to steal, and possession of Class B drugs.
He has been released pending further investigation.
