The husband of a woman who went missing from Deal 20 years ago has appeared at Maidstone Crown Court charged with her murder.

Andrew Griggs, 56, of Ringwood Road in St Leonards, Dorset, is accused of murdering Debbie Griggs, who was 34 when she went missing from her home in Walmer, Deal, late on the evening of Wednesday 5 May 1999.

Despite extensive searches and appeals for information detectives were unable to locate Debbie, who was a devoted mother of three young children and expecting her fourth.

Warrant

Officers from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate executed a warrant on the morning of Tuesday 12 March 2019 to bring Mr Griggs before Medway Magistrates' Court the same day.

He was remanded in custody until his appearance at Maidstone Crown Court on Thursday 14 March, when he was granted conditional bail by the judge.

Mr Griggs will next appear for a plea and trial preparation hearing on Tuesday 9 April.
