1. Independent Advisory Group (IAG)
The IAG are a group of community volunteers who work with Kent Police to improve policing services across the county acting as critical friends.
IAGs were created to challenge conventional thinking, to give an independent perspective on issues and to work as partners with Kent Police to inform improvements in service delivery.
Memberships aims to cover all diverse groups in Kent such as race, religion, LGBT+, disability, age and gender.
The group support policing by:
- providing a link between the police and the communities of Kent
- sharing community feedback with the police and other agencies
- giving advice and support during critical incidents as required
The structure
There is a County IAG made up of a County Chair and Vice Chair and 11 local District Chairs.
The District Chairs oversee their local advisory group and feedback information into the County IAG (and vice versa).
The County IAG and District IAGs meet at least four times a year. Members also represent the IAG on police strategic boards around hate crime, stop and search, use of force and diversity and inclusion.
Each group also works closely with our Community Liaison Officers. Community Liaison Officers can give you advice, discuss what has happened or put you in touch with other organisations that may be able to offer you support.
