Menopause friendly employer
Kent Police has been accredited by an independent panel as a menopause friendly employer.
The accreditation demonstrates the force has clarity in how it supports menopause in the workplace, creating an environment where menopause can be talked about easily, and where there is appropriate support for colleagues.
The panel of assessors was made up of experts in their field, who are passionate about accelerating change in menopause in the workplace best practice.
The force was assessed under five key areas:
- culture
- policies and practices
- training
- engagement
- working environment
Menopause friendly initiatives the force has implemented include:
- a team of ‘menopause buddies’ who are available to give support and guidance
- the creation of a Menopause Action Group, to help understand ways in which the force can support those experiencing symptoms
- a series of “let’s talk menopause” events to support open and friendly conversation around menopause
- a menopause and hormone-related policy that ensures inclusivity not only for women, but for anyone with conditions affecting their hormones, including transgender colleagues
- adjusting clothing materials and styles for female uniformed colleagues to bring them greater comfort
The force has also researched and created its own training on the menopause for managers to complete, following National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines.
