Our control room in Maidstone is the start of our front-line response to members of the public. In 2021, we took 702,500 calls and responded to 44,000 enquires through our Live Chat (intended for non-emergency enquiries through our website).
Divisions
Policing in Kent is split into three divisions:
- North: covering Dartford, Gravesham, Medway and Swale
- East: covering Canterbury, Thanet, Dover, Ashford, Folkestone and Hythe
- West: covering Maidstone, Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge and Malling and Sevenoaks
Each district has a:
- Local Policing Team for emergency and non-emergency response
- Community Safety Unit
- Community Policing Team
- Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs)
- Crime Squad
- County Lines and Gangs Team
The Professional Standards Department and the Paedophile Online Investigation Team are county-wide teams and the Serious Crime Directorate is shared with Essex Police.
We also operate a station at Bluewater Shopping centre with a small custody suite and a station at Longport near the Channel Tunnel with a dedicated custody suite with cells. We are a unique force in that we also operate a station outside of the UK, in Coquelles, France.
The force is supported by the National Police Air Service and we have a number of qualified drone pilots.
