Kent Police offer unique and varied opportunities to its workforce.
We are committed to recruiting a workforce which better reflects the communities we serve. We also have several support groups to help us to engage directly with the needs of all staff – providing a critical friend where needed and providing you support when needed.
We are looking for dynamic, innovative and operationally credible officers who are committed to enhancing service delivery. You will be truly committed and passionate about providing an exceptional policing service to the people of Kent.
We are the first force to receive an outstanding rating for legitimacy in the PEEL assessments and the only force to retain it for four years. We continue to push the boundaries for innovation and transformation with both technology and creative policing models, providing a unique platform for anyone wishing to take their career to new heights.
We consider applications from individuals wishing to join the force from non-home office forces. If you wish to join us, please email our recruitment team.
Throughout the autumn months we have a number of opportunities for constables, sergeants and inspectors looking to join our leadership teams. These opportunities are inclusive of detectives.
Our opportunities include:
Successful candidates will be eligible for salary at the national pay scale for that rank, plus £3,000 per annum South East allowance (or other housing rent allowance). From 1 September 2022.
Subject to qualifying criteria being met, detectives can earn an additional £1,200 per year.
We are responsible for policing an area which stretches north to Dartford and Swanley and west to Edenbridge and Tunbridge Wells.
The county covers a city, a number of towns and with large areas of sprawling Kent countryside in between.
When it comes to policing we have a number of unique responsibilities.
As well as dealing with crime and disorder, our geographic location - between London and Europe - means we have a part to play in both national and international policing.
We're the main gateway to Europe through three major ports, the Channel Tunnel, a number of airfields and Lydd airport.
We also police one of the most significant coastlines and busiest road networks in the country which includes the M25, M2/A2 and M20.
Kent Police covers three Local Policing Divisions, North, West & East, which cover the following:
Are you an experienced Constable or Detective Constable? We are looking for constables to transfer to Kent and join our policing family.
We are seeking keen and enthusiastic individuals who are willing to work as part of our team for a variety of opportunities within our local policing teams across the county. These are demanding but rewarding roles requiring a high level of resilience, professionalism and dedication.
If you believe your skills, experience and passion for policing are suited to Kent Police, please apply online for level transfer.
We are looking for Examining Officers under Schedule 3 & Schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act 2000 or have previously been and have an interest in joining Counter Terrorism Policing Borders (CTPB) in Kent as a direct transferee.
You will be working within the highly rewarding field of counter terrorism working from either the Channel Tunnel site (Cheriton, UK and Coquelles, France) or from the Eastern Docks, Dover. Constables based at the Channel Tunnel site also have responsibility for delivering policing on the site including underground response and critical incident management. This site is one of the Country’s few selected Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) sites. The exceptional nature of constables’ roles within this directorate makes this a rare and exciting opportunity for successful candidates.
You will be working at some of the country’s busiest gateways to and from the continent focussing on border-related counter terrorism, criminality and safeguarding. The nature of the role involves a high level of partnership working within the UK and with French and European colleagues.
What we are looking for:
We are seeking officers who positively work as part of a team with the ability to work proactively to identify opportunities and develop information and intelligence to reach the correct outcome. A consistently high level of professionalism is essential, as is the ability to exercise sound, professional judgement. You will need the ability to effectively manage your workload, prioritising your Schedule 7 examination and review objectives against national counter terrorism priorities. It is imperative that you are cognisant of cultural sensitivities and the wider implications that examinations may have. You will be asked to evidence your decision-making skills, including your abilities to gather all available intelligence before making timely and justifiable decisions.
The primary responsibility of CT Border Policing is countering the terrorist threat to the United Kingdom through our border policing function. You will be engaged in Schedule 7 examinations under the Terrorism Act 2000; managing the arrest of terrorist suspects and gathering intelligence relating to national security as well as serious and organised crime.
You will liaise with and foster good professional relationships with UK and foreign partner agencies to help safeguard the UK and Europe. This may include counter terrorism, organised crime and site safety and security. We work with law enforcement agencies, safety authorities, emergency response organisations as well as commercial enterprises to help deliver these objectives. Accordingly, an understanding of different organisations’ philosophies is key.
The role requires teams to proactively find and develop opportunities as well as responding to calls and alerts from other agencies. Channel Tunnel Policing Unit officers also deliver a high-quality police service on the Channel Tunnel site. This is for general policing, emergency response and incident management above and below ground. As a sergeant working at this site, you will play a key role in incident command, above and underground, and work with partner agencies using JESIP principles. These factors make it critical that you can represent the organisation positively with partners.
Although not permanently staffed, officers need to deploy and lead staff to our other sites such as international rail stations, seaports and airports and ensure they are confident to deploy there. There may also be the need to deploy to the Tug Haven, Dover to support screening of migrants.
CT Border Policing is a challenging and unique department offering a varied and interesting range of opportunities. We are looking for someone willing to commit to at least two years in this diverse and vital role. As this is a 24/7 service the successful candidate must have the ability to work a 24-hour shift system.
Knowledge of anti-terrorism powers and Schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act 2000 is desirable; however, additional training will be provided to allow you to exercise these powers.
Vetting to SC level (enhanced) is a role requirement and will take place following successful interview. All roles performed within CT Policing Borders Policing are designated sensitive posts within the Home Office Security Policy Framework document. Any person applying for such a role must not only successfully apply for and hold a minimum vetting level of Security Clearance (Enhanced) SE(E) but also successfully complete a further security induction process which has been introduced by both the NCCP (National Counter Terrorism Policing) HQ and the National Security Agencies who administer access to the National Secure SB network.

In order to support force resilience and to maintain operational skills and credibility successful candidates will be expected to conduct relevant on-call duties if successful.
