Provide an integrated support service, including the preparation of more complex case files for court, ensuring all stages of case management are effectively administered and case files conform to National File Standards and Force procedures for submission to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). Maintain accurate information in relation to Crown Court cases, liaising with relevant agencies and circulating accurate and timely information, when required, ensuring case files meet quality standards and service level agreements to ensure the successful prosecution of offenders and the best result for victims at court.

The post holder will have previous experience as a Caseworker within the Criminal Justice Unit and a well-developed understanding and awareness of the issues currently facing the Criminal Justice System and the environment in which the CJU operates within the Criminal Justice process. Possesses excellent knowledge of the roles of the various organisation structures and criminal justice systems to operate effectively.
The role requires an ability to work under minimal supervision, manage time effectively, prioritise work to meet deadlines with the ability to identify and solve problems using a high degree of initiative. It is critical that they are receptive to change in order to meet the changes to policy and procedures.
Good keyboard skills are essential as is the ability to deal with a wide range of computer applications including the typing and preparation of a wide range of documentation. Excellent verbal communication skills along with well-developed written communication skills are required in order to deal with correspondence received and sent to a range of internal and external stakeholders.
The nature of crime work can be extremely sensitive and staff are expected to comply with relevant security policies and system operating procedures.

Identify and present case materials, working with the CPS to progress the case. Example: Distinguish between evidence and unused material, identifying material, which might undermine the prosecution or assist the defence. Record, retain and reveal all unused material, distinguishing between sensitive and non sensitive. Ensure quality and accuracy of file contents, presenting evidence logically and with integrity. Present honest and objective comments regarding the strengths and weaknesses of the case in a fair and justifiable manner to the CPS. Liaise with the Criminal Justice Unit and/or Crown Prosecution Service for advice, as required submit the correct and completed case file to the Criminal Justice Units in the required time scales. Respond promptly and positively to CJU/CPS requests in respect of further actions.

Is able to quality assure own records management processes as well as those of any staff for whom they have supervisory responsibility. Is aware of where to seek further support in relation to Records management within force when necessary. If nominated as an Information Asset Assistant is familiar with the NPCC Information Asset Owners Handbook.
Has a good understanding of office routines and procedures, and possesses skills in planning, organising and monitoring work. Understands record keeping, filing and data storage systems, and can ensure that information is stored accurately / logically, within Force guidelines. Able to organise the provision and storage of office supplies, stationery and consumable items etc. to ensure that appropriate stock levels are maintained. Able to undertake basic research and supply information in a well presented manner. Can draft and prepare routine documents.
Able to utilise relevant Force standard office software products such as word processing and document creation, spreadsheet, database, presentation and desktop publishing packages to a standard that matches the requirements of the current role in terms of quality and speed. Can operate other items of essential office technology such as photocopiers and shredders and can utilise IT products available through Office 365 to share information and aid communications and to effectively undertake the requirements of the current role. Aware of the implications of Data Protection and acts appropriately in this respect.
