Main purpose of the role:
Manage and direct the local Policing Team (LPT) having day to day responsibility and accountability for performance in accordance with Police and Crime Plan priorities, in order to deliver a high quality of service and uphold professional standards within the team. Promote local Policing amongst local communities, stakeholders and partners and maximise opportunities for community engagement.

This is uniformed post. The post holder will be responsible for leading teams of police officers who deliver local policing services within each of the Districts across the county operating a 24/7 service and aligned to a rotating shift cycle. These services include responding to calls for assistance, investigating crime and ASB, and proactive policing 24/7.
The inspector will have a span of command across one or more Districts, aligned to a shift to provide visible leadership and development to those officers within his or her line management. The Inspector will also discharge the legal requirements of PACE for the period of 24/7 cover for which they are responsible.
The role itself will be conducted in a public place and also office based, providing visible leadership at the scenes of serious incidents and crime, as well as observing and guiding team members assisting to maintain and improve service delivery. They will also need to be available to access the custody suite of police stations, to discharge PACE duties.
To fulfil this role, the post holder will ideally be capable of supporting 24/7 shift work, including working full night shifts. Whilst it is envisaged the post holder would not routinely act as a front line responder, they will be required to patrol either alone or be sometimes be accompanied, they may either be called to supervise at the scene of violent incidents, or happen across spontaneous incidents whilst on patrol. To mitigate against the risk of personal injury, and to be able to fully protect the public the post holder should be officer safety trained and accredited.
The office based element of the role will involve the use of the force computer systems to fulfil the inspecting function of operations which includes briefing, the scrutiny of incident and crime management systems as well as line management procedures. It also includes attending meetings either on police premises or those belonging to third parties, and carrying out media interviews.
