This role has been created to help us and our partner agencies in response to dog crime as a whole, and you will have a range of designated powers to help tackle the areas you are most interested in.
We are currently closed for applications.
Help tackle the rise in dog theft and lost dogs, which has been seen across the UK and which effect our communities. The aim is to educate dog owners around the value of their dogs to thieves and how best to protect and safeguard their dogs and themselves both at home and when out walking.
Promoting microchipping, security, awareness and a sense of dog community. You will support officers and the public by communicating directly with our official partner organisation, Doglost about lost and stolen dogs and relevant advertising campaigns. You will also work with other police forces and agencies.
You may have an interest in promoting responsible dog ownership in local communities, this area also focuses on educating dog owners about their responsibilities, trying to reduce dog on dog or animal attacks, and supporting both owners and victims, providing advice to a range of incidents. There are many educational and enforcement opportunities within this role, supporting the work of our Community Safety Units where you will link in with local dog wardens and approved charities to support one another in tackling these anti-social behaviour issues. There is also the opportunity to support tackling the areas of unlicensed breeding and selling of dogs.
Helping to tackle illegal dog importation, often referred to as puppy smuggling, is a part of the role which helps us and other agencies in tackling this multi-million-pound crime. You will be responsible for information and intelligence gathering, contributing to building up a picture of this constantly evolving crime, identifying links to other crime and liaising with our partner agencies.
Volunteers will have an interest in dogs and animal welfare, and you will be under the supervision of a regular police officer/community policing volunteer leader. Training and support will be provided.
