Special constables are volunteer police officers, sometimes known as specials. They take part in frontline police work and wear the same uniform, carry the same equipment and hold the same power of arrest as regular police officers.
As a special constable you'll make a positive difference to the people of Kent supporting regular police officers, undertaking patrols and investigating reports of crime. The most important part of your job will be to protect life and ensure public safety, but you'll also build relationships with local communities, prevent and detect crime, support victims and witnesses and keep people safe. Through our support and dedicated police training, we'll prepare you for it all.
If you have previously been a special constable or if you’re thinking of transferring to us, please find more information on our Transfer or rejoin us page.
Real people, real policing - meet some of our special constables
Our special constables come from all walks of life and get involved in all kinds of police work. They use their existing skills and the skills that we teach them to police Kent.
