Outside of volunteering as a special constable, I am a national account manager.
I have had opportunities to gain further training in areas such as:
I have also gained a cycle permit whilst being a special.
I think becoming a special has provided me with a calm, clear and methodical way of thinking. Remaining calm under pressure and always putting the victim first. Self-development comes from putting yourself outside your comfort zone, so not being afraid to take a leap.
Volunteering has always been a passion, and I want my family to live in a safe environment. I believe in helping others who may not be able to help themselves, and that communities are built on individuals going the extra mile for the greater good.
I have gained self confidence in my own strengths and abilities alongside physical and mental resilience. I am proud of the team I lead who share the same values as I do, both on a personal and professional level. I was lucky enough to win the Special Constable of the Year 2022 award, and this was down to my team and peers around me giving me the strength and confidence to flourish.
I possess transferable skills from my day-job that help me in my role as a special, so is true of the reverse. I have found confidence and self-belief where I previously struggled, and this has helped me build sustainable commercial relationships. My ability to stay calm under pressure has helped me become more successful in negotiation, this in turn driving more value and volume growth for my employer.
The transferable skills from my day-job that I use as a special are, advanced negotiation, problem solving, analytical thinking, presentation skills, collaborative working, relationship building and power of planning.
