There are a number of jobs that are incompatible with being a special constable, so it’s important that you check the precluded occupations list before submitting your application. Please check the list to ensure that your current employment will not prevent you from applying.
If you are volunteering as a special constable and are currently employed, you will need to notify your employer that you have applied to ensure that you have their support should you need time off to attend court.
Make sure you've read all information before starting your application.
When you make an application to join as a special constable, each applicant will follow the same process, this involves checks with our vetting team and our occupational health team. These checks may incur delays while they wait for replies from external parties, any delays are beyond our control. Usually the process can take between four and seven months from initial application through to offering you a role as a special constable.
