I have always wanted to be a police officer because of how dynamic the job is. No two days are the same and it facilitates both fast-paced days and slow-paced days. Beyond the thrill that can come with the job, I feel as though I can have a unique impact on the public as a black ethnic minority officer. Over time the police force has been accused of being racist and at times discriminative. I hope to be able to show the public that the police force isn’t discriminative, but instead is striving to be inclusive and fair. I hope to be living proof that the uniform represents members of the public from all backgrounds.
After completing my two-year probation, I would love to become a traffic officer. I am an avid car enthusiast and never get bored of driving. Becoming a traffic officer will enable me to incorporate one of my biggest hobbies and passions into my career. I believe that when you enjoy your job, it doesn’t feel like work.
Being a police officer allows me to implement many of the things that I am good at into one career and the demands of the job can enhance a lot of the strengths that I already have. This job requires me to maintain good health, and as a former athlete this motivates me to look after my health and attend the gym regularly, so I can do my job to best of my ability. It gives me something to work for.
I thrive in high-pressure situations, and I can perform well and remain calm in stressful situations. The nature of policing will present me with many similar situations and allow me to test myself and see what I can achieve. I hope it will give me many opportunities to learn more about myself. I have great people skills that I will be able to utilise and further develop almost every day through interactions with the public. It will require me to constantly work as a team and strengthen my strong communication skills.
