Volunteers play a vital role in policing across Kent. They help keep people safe and support the day-to-day work of Kent Police.
From special constables working alongside officers, to cadet leaders supporting young people, volunteers take on a wide range of roles. This includes community policing volunteers, police support volunteers and Speedwatch teams.
Each role offers a chance to use your skills, make a difference and help build strong relationships with local communities across Kent.
Our volunteers come from all walks of life, but they all share one thing – they want to make a difference. Here’s what they say about their experience.

Kent Police volunteering has been recognised in the latest His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services (HMICFRS) Police Effectiveness, Efficiency and Legitimacy (PEEL) 2025–2027 report as an example of innovative practice.
The report highlights how volunteers are used in a professional and fully integrated way, especially within the Special Constabulary. It also recognises the positive impact this has on the effectiveness of policing in Kent and on staff morale.
Volunteers also support policing in Kent through partner organisations. These groups work closely with us to help keep people safe and find vulnerable missing people.
Kent Search and Rescue is one of the largest and oldest Lowland Rescue teams in the UK. It is a charity made up entirely of volunteers.
The team has around 100 members. All are trained to a professional standard.
They support Kent Police by helping to find vulnerable missing people and reunite them with their families.
Their specialist equipment includes:
“We are incredibly proud of our long-standing partnership with Kent Police. It is a privilege to support missing people and their families across Kent.”
