Special constables are volunteer police officers who make Kent safer. Could you use your spare time to help fight crime and support your local community?
Volunteering as a special constable is a great way to build relationships and develop new skills. Special constables are very much appreciated and invaluable to us. Special constables work in a range of policing areas, such as:
So whatever your interests, we’ll find a volunteer role that works for you. You can choose what area you want to work in and can specialise into different roles throughout your career after you have achieved Directed Patrol status.
You'll support regular police officers, undertake patrols, support calls for assistance from the public and investigate reports of crime. You'll wear the same uniform, carry the same equipment and hold the same power of arrest as your regular police officer colleagues.
If you are committed to taking on this challenging, exciting and rewarding role, you will need to complete a minimum of 16 hours operational policing each month. You can volunteer at times which fit around your life and commitments – we can make your shifts work for you.
We’re looking for people from all backgrounds to join us, people who can earn trust, respect and build positive relationships. In return, you will receive the best training and support possible.
Book on one of our recruitment and information events and find out more about the role of a special constable
If you are an employer who would like to support your employees in joining the special constabulary please consider the Employer Supported Policing (ESP) scheme.
Apply to join us, we look forward to welcoming you to our team
