  • Priority:

    Action taken:

  • Priority:

    Road safety.

    Issued 15 April 2026

    Action taken:

Officers have carried out speed checks in and around New Romney following concerns raised by residents about road safety. Encouragingly, speed checks near Greatstone Primary School received positive feedback from the local community. During the operation, only 3 drivers were spoken to and given advice about their speed while travelling near the school. Promoting safe driving around schools remains a priority, as excessive speed can put children and other road users at risk.

This work will continue in other locations where speeding has been identified as a concern. A joint operation is also being planned with the Child Centred Policing Team in the Lydd area, focusing on roads around local schools. The aim is to improve road safety, raise awareness of the dangers of speeding and help ensure children can travel to and from school safely. Through a combination of enforcement, education and community engagement, officers will continue to address road safety concerns and support safer driving across the area.

  • Priority:

    E-scooters/e-bikes.

    Issued 15 April 2026

    Action taken:

Officers have continued to address concerns about the use of e-scooters in the area. A number of warnings have been issued to young people using e-scooters unlawfully, alongside advice and education to help them understand the rules and safety risks associated with their use. We hope residents have already started to see a reduction in the number of e-scooters being used illegally.

Following a period of education and engagement, officers will now be taking stronger enforcement action. Any e-scooters found being used unlawfully on public roads, pavements or other public spaces may be seized. This approach aims to improve safety for pedestrians and other road users, while ensuring that those choosing to ignore previous warnings are held accountable. Officers will continue to patrol the area and take appropriate action where offences are identified.

  • Priority:

    Dog fouling.

    Issued 15 April 2026

    Action taken:

Officers have carried out foot patrols across the area to monitor locations where concerns about dog fouling have been raised. Encouragingly, very little dog fouling has been identified, reflecting the responsible behaviour of the majority of local dog owners. Officers will continue to engage with residents and dog walkers while on patrol to help maintain this positive position.

Responsibility for enforcing dog fouling offences and arranging the removal of waste rests with the local council. However, officers continue to work closely with council partners to identify persistent problem locations and support efforts to address concerns where they arise. This partnership approach helps to keep public spaces clean, safe and welcoming for residents and visitors, while ensuring that any issues are reported to the appropriate authority for action.
