Sorry, there was a technical problem. Please try again.
This site is a beta, which means it's a work in progress and we'll be adding more to it over the next few weeks. Your feedback helps us make things better, so please let us know what you think.
Q. What do you mean by ‘start an investigation’?
A. Our priority is to ensure all those at risk are safeguarded. The next step is to gather the evidence so the facts can be established.
Q. Who will you tell about what happened if I have children?
A. Police share relevant information with children’s social services to ensure the family are fully supported, this may include informing schools or nurseries.
Q. What evidence will you gather?
A. Anything we think that will help support the case and get it to trial. Photos of injuries, photos of the house if there are damaged items, statement from you and anyone else who saw what happened, any information that is helpful stored on your mobile phone. Essentially, anything that will prove or disprove the allegation.
Q. How do you get the information from my phone?
A. The officer will arrange for the phone to be ‘downloaded’ so we can secure the information and you still get to keep your phone. We won’t leave you without a phone for very long and it may be possible to do this at a police station while you wait. Always discuss any concerns you have with the officer in the case (OIC).
Q. What if I don’t want the suspect to be arrested?
A. The police will decide whether it is necessary to arrest a person but will reach that decision based on facts, level of risk and take into account your wishes and feelings.
