  • Priority:

    E-scooters and e-bikes.

    Issued 15 April 2026

    Action taken:

Police in Medway are continuing to take action to tackle the unsafe and unlawful use of e-scooters and e-bikes. During a recent targeted operation, officers stopped a number of riders, with several vehicles being seized and Traffic Offence Reports (TOR) issued for offences that were identified. A TOR is a formal record created by police when someone is suspected of committing a road traffic offence and may result in a fixed penalty notice, a driver education course or a court appearance. Alongside enforcement activity, officers spoke with riders to explain the laws that apply to e-scooters and e-bikes and provide advice on how to use them safely and responsibly. Officers will continue to address this issue during routine patrols. Anyone using an e-scooter or e-bike in breach of the Road Traffic Act 1988, which is the law governing road use, driver responsibilities and vehicle safety, may be stopped and could have their vehicle seized.

Police are carrying out daily patrols, both in uniform and plain clothes, to tackle drug dealing.

Officers are using stop and search powers (a legal power to search people for items such as drugs) and taking action when offences are found.

Information gathered is also helping officers obtain warrants (legal permission to search a property), make arrests and disrupt drug activity.
