The table below shows the differences in pay for the genders when the pay points are grouped into quartiles. The quartiles for officers and staff vary, however as a general approximation the lower quartile contains hourly pay rates of between £10.17 to £16.88 per hour (ph), lower middle £16.88 to £19.81 ph, upper middle £19.81 to £24.94 ph and upper £24.90 and above. The figures in grey represent 2024 values.

The table indicates a pay gap in favour of males. When focusing on the combined position (officers and staff), the data demonstrates that the force has more males in senior positions than females and that in comparison to last year’s figures, the percentage of females represented in the upper and middle quartiles has reduced. However, there has been an increase in the percentage of females represented in the lower middle quartile and lower quartile.
Of note however, there are significant variations when you compare employee groups separately. For officers, there has been a reduction in the percentage of females represented in the upper, upper middle and lower middle quartile however for staff there has been a fairly significant increase across those three categories. For both officers and staff there was a marginal increase in the proportion of females in the lower quartile.
